One Day is an ongoing project sparked by the Covid-19. In the days of isolation we would like to focus on what we do best; bringing people together. Read more about the project here.
We will be posting one new day of someones life every day until we run out of contributors. See our instagram stories to experience these peoples One Day in action.
A text, song or film that everyone should experience.
I’m missing playing records at my local pub which we used to do on a monthly basis with our friends Crispin Finn, so i’ll pick one of my regular 7”s Pata Pata by Miraim Makeba, its a spirit lifter for sure.
What is the story behind your profession/ passion?
I would say my profession began in illustration and graphic design but my passion has been interiors and architeture for a long time. In some ways i have found a balance between the 2 working on design and art that is unfused with my interest for spaces & objects.
How do you want people to react to your work / passion?
With joy would be a win.
If you work with a partner, when and how did you meet?
We work in the same space although not together … the current situation may chage this as we have discussed collaborating in some way, our artwork is polar opposites asethetically but often what draws me to design is contrast so it could make for an interesting mix.
How has the current situation affected how you work?
I have a lot more time to procrastinate …
What is the most inspiring text you read recently?
I just read ‘confessions of an Art addict’ by Peggy guggenheim, my dad passed me his copy pre lockdown so it was also a nice way to feel connected too.
Your greatest achievement?
I feel proud that I pay for my life through making artwork and pieces of design, i just hope this can continue in these very testing times for art and culture.
Define what beauty means to you.
Something that elevates the ordinary ... or more often than not the ordinary itself. I believe we are all creative beings but when you are completely open to creativity (which i think many people shut away in later life) there is so much beauty to observe in everyday and in turn so much joy to experience.
Function or form?
Function, form and fantasy please.
Describe a smell that brings back memories to you.
The smell of pine trees reminds me of holidays
Your best trait?
I think i'm good at seeing the positive in people and situations although the current situation is testing this ability somewhat ...
What traits do you treasure in other people?
Kindness.
Your most treasured possession?
For someone obsessed with objects and the material world I’m not sure I have one …
Who do you miss?
Friends and family.
When was the last time you learned something new and what was it?
I’m actually learning to cast some of my own wooden assemblages at the moment, I’m not sure yet if the process will be a sucess, but i hope so as it will be a nice way to produce more affordable editions in the future.
Have you actively chosen to live in the city/town you live in?
Yes, we decided we wanted a life by the sea with the city close by.
How do you relax?
Cooking, reading, listening to radio 4 or a good podcast, watching home tours on the internet … in other times meeting with friends for drinks and dinner.
What does freedom mean to you?
A life without anxiety ..which i think is impossible but what a dream if you could get there.
Do you have any regrets in life?
Taking so long to have the courage and confidence in my own design and art practice .. I still have some work to do here, perhaps it always alludes you and thats what keeps you trying.
Should calm come from within or be facilitated by the environment?
I think its a mixture, it can prove difficult to feel calm in chaotic surroundings
Lastly, how do wish to see this current situation have a positive impact on our lives?
I think we have all been given a moment to re-evaluate what really matters in life, everyone is experiencing things differently but i think at the same time we have all been forced to think more about what we value.
