What is the story behind your profession/ passion?
I started photography as a hobby, taking photos of my travels and capturing memories with family and friends. It was only a few years ago that I realised I wanted to seriously pursue photography. While I was living in London I started to slowly get commissions to document the city, its surroundings, and some of my travels.
I’m currently working as a marketing manager and freelance photographer in Brisbane. As a photographer I work with local brands to help them create compelling imagery for their online and offline presence, as well as document events and travels. I love to tell stories of people and the places they live in, and I have a certain fascination for details and an interest in documenting the daily.
How has the current situation affected how you work?
Before the pandemic hit, I was planning a few more trips around Australia and then to go back to Europe for a few months to visit family and friends and do some work there, but obviously I had to rethink my plans. It has actually been a good time for me to refocus and work on projects from home I always wanted to do but never had the time for. I have always wanted to take more styled food photos and since I’m cooking and baking a lot at the moment, it’s a great way to improve my styling skills. I have also been taking some classes on Skillshare, I love to keep learning and it’s a great way to stay inspired.
Your greatest achievement?
Probably moving to London on my own in 2015, and then moving to Australia in 2019 making both these places my home.
Analog or digital?
I can’t choose just one. I use digital mostly for work, but love to use analog to capture memories and some of my travels.
Describe a smell that brings back memories to you.
The smell of burning logs in the fireplace reminds me of winter at my parents’ and walks along the Regents Canal in London.
Your best trait?
Positivity, curiosity and a strong belief in people.
What traits do you treasure in other people?
Openness, curiosity, humour and warmth.
Your most treasured possession?
Probably my camera, my travel books and magazines, and some printed photos of friends and family.
Who do you miss?
My family and friends.
When was the last time you learned something new and what was it?
I love learning and feel that everyday I’m learning something new. I have been improving my styling skills as I always felt a bit unsure about it, and I’m feeling much more confident now. I have also been spending time on improving my graphic design competences and pottery hand building techniques. I also learnt to make bread.
Have you actively chosen to live in the city/town you live in?
I moved to Brisbane at the beginning of 2019. I decided to leave London after 4 years living there as I felt it was time for a new adventure and also because there was a special someone living in Australia. It has been a great experience so far, Australia is a beautiful country and the positive vibes are real, although I miss Europe sometimes. I was planning to come back to Europe for a few months in April then move to New Zealand in September, but I’m now rethinking my plans even if hopefully they will just be postponed to later in the year.
How do you relax?
I go for long walks, make things, read magazines.
Lastly, how do wish to see this current situation have a positive impact on our lives?
I believe we’ve all learnt to slow down and focus on the important things. I think we’ll all appreciate the small things that make us feel happy and alive, and finally take the time to do more of what we love.
